You know, I've heard that NY has beautiful countryside but it's funny how you always think (or at least I do!) of NY being all city...I guess because NYC is bigger than life!

ROFL, well seeing that picture reminds me that my kids nicknamed Illinois as the "state of corn" on our drive to Chicago,lol...they were quite bored!

New York. Outside of Chicago, Illinois is.....well....nothing from my experience, although Springfield was an okay city. at least outside New York City, theres lots of skiing and recreation. theres also Buffalo, Rochester, Albany, Syracuse, etc

That's so true. If I hadn't actually been there to see upstate NY for myself, I probably would've thought the same thing.

For kicks, here are some pics of upstate NY I found at Google Images. If Illinois has anything similar, I'd love to see it.

Here are some neat pictures of Illinois. I'm still thinking. Have lived in both. Liked different things about both.

New York

Real beaches
Real mountains
Close to other important cities
More temperate climate than much of Illinois (fewer tornadoes, extreme heat events, less variation from extreme heat in the summer to bitter cold in the winter, fewer floods).
More highly respected institutes of higher education
Borders Canada
Bigger city, more opportunity
Generally less grating accents (Illinois goes from Great Lakes accents around Chicago to Southern accents around Cairo and Carbondale)
Better food (Yes, pizza too)
Higher international presence
Higher pay
