Myth: Las Vegas is nothing but barren brown hot desert for hundreds of miles around.

As I fervently explained a few weeks ago, these pictures above are taken 39 miles northwest (Mapquest estimates 47 minutes driving time) of downtown Las Vegas. Those are the Spring Mountains-- most well known is Mt Charleston. There's actually a small ski area in those mountains: http://www.skilasvegas.com/ Most people who are not really familiar with the southwest think I'm making this up. You wish! I'm not.

I'm going to go against the wind here and stick with a stereotypical statement. A lot of people here like to argue, "Iowa isn't flat!" ... well, I'm here to say - get real, the majority of it - IS.
