The once small town of San Juan Capistrano (now population 30,000) has been surrounded by the development of Orange County, CA. With strict building laws though San Juan Capistrano has been able to maintain its history and small town charm, and yes if you can believe it there IS history in California.

A home in the Los Rios District of san Juan, California's oldest permanent residential community with homes built from the late 1770's to early 1800's.
The Capistrano Train Depot was built in 1894 for the Santa Fe train system. It remains in active use today, partly as a restaurant and also as an active train station still today. It saw 263,000 Amtrak passengers in 2008 and also serves thousands of travelers using Southern California's METROLINK commuter rail system.
