I am looking to move out of Florida and want to stick to the east coast. Mild winters, good schools, lots to do with the family, good neighborhoods. I am self employed, so the job market is not an issue to me.

I'd recommend the Carolinas, but avoidance of the areas overrun by those exiting Florida in masses (Charlotte for example).
In North Carolina, the Asheville/Hendersonville area.
The Philadelphia metro area including South Jersey is a great place to raise a family and offers many family activities.
