We used "Granny" here and I only knew one grandfather whom I called "Pop" . He was Pop to his children, but I called him that also. I liked the name.

For me, it was the typical Grandma and Grandpa. Very soft d though, so it was more like gramma and granpa. My family was from the Philly area originally though, and I noticed my cousins on my Mom's side said Grandmom and Grandpop instead.

My children call my father and law Grandpap, which I find a little odd. Must be a Pittsburgh thing.

I'm from Connecticut.

When my grandparents were still around 15-20 years ago I called them Grammie and Papa.

Mom's side - Grandma and Grandpa
Dad's side - Mémère and Grandpa (she was French and didn't want us to forget it)

Default Nana

I live in the Boston area, and I hear a lot of people here refer to their grandmothers as "Nana."

I'm from Northern Ohio. It was grandma and grandpa for me.

My mom tried to get my kids to call her nana but it went over like a lead balloon. They call my mother-in-law's husband papa but my dad and father-in-law grandpa. I wonder if papa is from his Mexican heritage? I don't know anyone who uses that term.

I don't think what we called our grandparents, is a regional thing. It's more of a family thing, or circumstance might dictate what grandparents are called. For example, neither of my grandchildren call me "grandma." My husband is grandpa, but I am "Mica", because that's what my grandson called me before he could talk. He put two syllables together, and that's what came out. It stuck, and now that's what the whole family calls me.
