So what do you guys think? I am looking to move but do not want to go out west because I am family and friends scattered all over the east side of the country. I have 5 years experience in .NET and work in west Michigan right now (not a good IT area) and am looking to move up to a bigger metro area with many possibilities.

Help me out! Thanks!

Pittsburgh! Lots of tech jobs and a very low cost of living.

I would say Atlanta, D.C., or Boston.

I am a programmer myself and I have a BS in CompSci and from my own experience, I would say Boston has the most opportunisties for programmers in the East Coast. All other cities come in a distant second. Areas like NYC and DC/NOVA/Baltimore have plenty jobs for software engineers.

I agree with the DC area as well. However, If you'd like someplace less expensive and less congested.. check out Richmond,VA or Raleigh/Durham, NC They're still large metro areas, but far less expensive and without nightmare commutes.
