Just thought I'd toss this one up in the air to see what people thought. Since there have been disagreements between which states belong in the Great Plains, I will exclude Kansas, Nebraska, South Dakota, and North Dakota from the list of options...although if one wants to claim these as Midwestern no problem by me. I'm not sure what people would find so exciting about those four states anyway

ANYHOW, which of these states in the Midwest is your favorite and why? Here is the list of states to choose from.

1. Minnesota
2. Iowa
3. Missouri
4. Wisconsin
5. Illinois
6. Indiana
7. Ohio
8. Michigan

If I had to pick one I guess I'd pick Ohio just because it has more major cities than any other of these states.

Id have to go with Michigan, its beautiful. Really, in all honesty, its in my top 5 most beautiful states (along with Vermont, Arizona, New Mexico, and Colorado). No joke.

Reasons why? There are TONS:

1. The Great Lakes are beautiful
2. Mackinac Island
3. Mackinac Island's fudge
4. The Grand Hotel
5. The entire upper peninsula
6. Ann Arbor
7. Holland
8. Sleeping Bear Dunes
9. Traverse City
10. Porcupine Mountains
11. all the beautiful waterfalls in the upper peninsula
12. Red Wings (I admit, Im a Hawk and Wing fan--- Im a sinner! LOL)

I cant think of all the others right now, but there are TONS of cool things about Michigan, too many to list...

I guess being from Missouri here's what I can list as being cool about it. The Lake of the Ozarks area and Tantara resorts, which are close to Jefferson City, are great getaways. You can waterski on the lake, you can essentially just relax and forget about your life back in the big city. It's full of history. You can go to Meramec Caverns to see the Jesse James hideout (very very cool, you won't see anything else like it in the U.S., they offer 28 different flavors of ice cream there too!) If you are into seeing Mark Twain's house and Northeast Missouri you can go up to Hannibal and see his stuff. Honestly though, if you want my two cents worth, Missouri is nothing without St. Louis and Kansas City. Kansas City is like the first Western-style city and St. Louis is the first Eastern-style city in character. These two cities breathe life into the state much as Chicago does to Illinois. That's about all there is I can say that makes Missouri anything special. It's not pretty like Wisconsin. The Wisconsin Dells are what make Wisconsin look attractive to me (it's the only place I've been)...they again seem to be like a vacation type of area where you can just forget about your real life and just take a nice vacation.

Well if you're not a Tigers fan at least you didn't go through the grief St. Louis caused them! However I wouldn't say the Cards have anything to celebrate right now given Detroit basically just gave them a beating and they aren't great at all this year...very disappointing to me as a Cards fan...haven't seen a season this bad for them so far since 1995...what a nightmare that was for us!

I actually haven't been to Michigan at all unless you count connecting on a plane through Detroit. I definitely would imagine that being surrounded by all those Great Lakes it surely must be more interesting than a lot of the other Midwestern states I listed.

Thats the problem with midwesterners.... they never get out and explore. SOOOOOO much is so cool about the area, but noone wants to do anything but sit by the pool or go to Starbucks or the major cities. Here are some links that I encourage ALL to check out. Sorry there are so many of them, but I figured its time to showcase just a small portion of the wonderful and quiet midwest.

Colorado! Although it's considered western, it shouldn't be. The vast majority of Coloradans live on the Great Plains and both Denver and Colorado Springs are much more Heartland sort of cities.

I would have to say Missouri because there is so many cheap and free things for families in St Louis and the Ozarks are beautiful as well.

I second Michigan. It really is a beautiful state with all of that coast. Northern Ohio around Put-in-Bay and the lake Erie islands is beautiful as well.

Default Wisconsin

Wisconsin!

Milwaukee metro area is great to live in.

Wisconsin Dells area beautiful.

Door County area beautiful.

Lake Geneva area beautiful.

Madison is a neat town.

The far western portion of the state near La Crosse, etc., the Minnesota border, with the Mississippi River is gorgeous as well.

Just a diverse, beautiful Midwestern state.

#2 would be Missouri for me
#3 - Ohio
#4 - Indiana
#5 - Iowa
#6 - Illinois
#7 - Michigan
#8 - Minnesota

(Although even the lower-ranked states have great aspects...Michigan for all of the reasons cited above, Minnesota for the lakes and the Twin Cities, and Illinois for Chicago and its amazing skyline / beautiful lakeshore).
