I'm woman in my 20's looking to move out next year. I want something new! I currently live in central New Jersey, and I just find it too expensive to afford an apartment here. I'm also sick of cold weather and am looking for a warmer climate. Having roomates isn't an issue. Does anyone have any suggestions on an affordable city to live in with a decent job market? Clerical work would do fine. I'm just starting to look for options.

Thanks!

Houston

Relatively affordable, cosmopolitan and endless opportunities for good jobs.

Also look at Atlanta, Dallas/ Ft Worth, Raleigh, Charlotte, Austin, San Antonio, Phoenix

A sleeper is Greenville SC and the Upstate SC region. It is in between Charlotte and Atlanta. So, you can check those areas out, while doing some things in the immediate area.

Nashville, Knoxville and the Tidewater/Hampton Roads area of VA might work too.

The culture shock from some cities in the Deep South compared to central NJ would be a lot to overcome.
Raleigh-Durham-Chapel Hill, NC is a nice compromise. You get a mild four-season climate, a pretty good job market, affordability, lower crime than many Southern cities and a highly educated population which demands much of what you're used to in NJ.
