Too much crime too. Except in North Carolina, there no crime. I remember back in the late 80s when there was no crime and everyone was friendly. No cocaine problems or economic problems either.
Actually, it seems like everyone is seeking something that doesn't exist nowadays. It's always been like that, but now there seems to be this common perception that the panacea actually exists. I think that's going to create a lot of unhappiness in the sunbelt over the next 20 years. It already happened to Florida.
More particular to society in general, it's become MUCH more promiscuous. Other than that, people are people and are always going to have the same tendencies. There was never a time when everyone was friendly and considerate, however there were times when more people faked it.

people vary too much to generalize a whole country of 300 million into rude, inconsiderate, and hurried or not rude, not inconsiderate, and not hurried , assuming you're talking about Americans of course

I have to ask -- are you actually old enough to remember the 80s?
No crime and no cocaine problems? Are you serious? Crime was rampant in the 80s and has been on a general DOWNWARD trend ever since peaking in the early 90s. No cocaine problem? The crack cocaine epidemic nearly ruined many of our cities for good. New York, Boston, Chicago, L.A., Miami, etc. were nearly uninhabitable in the 80s. They were considered ungovernable and practically left for dead. They were about the polar opposite of the yuppie playgrounds that middle-class families can barely afford to live in like they've become today.
And as for no economic problems, we experienced one of the worst recessions since the Great Depression in the early 1980s in a bid to get runaway inflation under control. Believe me, things on the whole have vastly improved since the 1980s.
I feel this is more of an urban/Northeast/West Coast thing than a nationwide one. People in the South, the Midwest, and small towns all over are still very friendly, laid back and down to Earth.

Even parts of lower and midtown Manhattan as well as Chicago's Loop were crime-infested from about 1967-68 all the way to 1995-97. Even the worst of the worst today in NYC, such as Soundview, East N.Y., Jamaica, and parts of Far Rockaway are heaven compared to what they were in, say, 1986. And, even with NYC's murder spike of 30% so far this year over last year, it's still MUCH safer than it was this time even 12-15 years ago.
I love it when people here complain about inconsiderate rudeness in the US. Everything is relative. Americans need to get out more often.
If Americans spent more time in other places they would be delighted with the levels of service here. Try countries where nothing gets done without bribery, business close up at any time on any day at whim, where one must stand in line for hours to deal with a surly employee to pay a 10 cent phone bill. Places where if you don't have the exact change the vendor will refuse to sell you a coke or bus ticket, will refuse adamantly to get something off the top of an 8 foot shelf so that you can buy it. Restaurants and cafes and bars that refuse you entry because you're not young and good looking enough to get in.
Get a grip. I find America and Americans in general to be friendly and helpful and usually polite. And they don't blow their noses on your shoes either.
I think people are more spoiled these days and act out ,especially some of these young kids around,I cant believe the mouths on some of these 10 year olds and the stuff they talk about, TV is also another thing that adds to this,people are followers and most like violence.People are easily stressed these days I believe and it can be caused by bad traffic,marriages,strees of work and cost of livings and really all sorts of stuff.
Yes, especially in most metro areas. At least you can still find some civility in many parts of rural America.
Exactly. Cities seem to be breeding grounds for stressed out / cranky people.
Too bad rural living doesn't provide an adequate salary.
