Legendary UGA coach Vince Dooley and retired Sen. Sam Nunn were inducted as Georgia Historical Society Trustees this weekend in Savannah, following a tradition that began with Gen. James Oglethorpe and the original Georgia Trustees who founded the Royal Colony in 1733.

In an interview with Connect Savannah editor Jim Morekis, Dooley was asked: "You're from Alabama but have lived most of your life in Georgia. What sets Georgia apart from other Southern States?"

Dooley's reply: "It has the quality, the charm, and all the wonderful attributes of the Deep South but it also has this incredible economic engine of Atlanta that drives it. You've got the charm of the Old South and forward-looking Atlanta. That combination makes one extraordinary Southern state."

AND THAT PRETTY MUCH SUMS IT UP! Try as you might, you really can't separate Atlanta from Georgia, and vice-versa. I've lived all over this state and know it's true.
