My family and I are moving up to the Alpharetta , Ga area this May and are starting from scratch. I have a 6 yr old who has Aspergers Syndrome ( Autism Spectrum Disorder) and two normal functioning children( 10 and 4). I am in need of some good schools in the area, Private and public. I need to know some Pediatricians who are trained to handle unique children. Best areas to live. Basically everything possible. We live in Thomasville Georgia right now and have nooo resources. We really like the Lion heart school for my 6 yr old but also am interested in mills springs school as well.
Any help would be so appreciative.

Thanks So much
Lisa

You should post this in the Atlanta forum. This is the general GA forum that many ATL folk may not be following.

My understanding of Mill Springs is that it doesn't really cater to Aspergers or autism. They do sometimes accept students who fall into that diagnosis, but their program is geared towards ADD and ADHD along with learning disabilities such as dyslexia.

My neighbor teaches there, and two close friends have looked into sending their children there.

Have you heard anything about Jacob's Ladder in Roswell? I believe that school specializes in the autism spectrum.

Just a suggestion , but if your son does get into The Lion Heart School, you might want to wait to find the pediatrician till then. I am sure that once you start to network with other parents at the school , they will be able to dirrect you to doctors in the area who are good at dealing with children both on and off the autism spectrum.

We see some of the best Dr's we've ever had at the Marcus Autism Center.

As far as which schools would be a good fit for your family I would suggest looking into the local Asperger/Autism Support groups as well as asking in the Atlanta forum.

All I can say is stay away from Coweta County from our own experiences.

Does anyone know if Fulton County or Forsyth Couty is better?
