That link falls short of what I would consider a thorough explanation. Based on the incomplete information available, this could either be a good thing or a bad thing (or, more likey, something that won't really have much impact in either direction), and I'm not willing to sign up for either side of the debate.

One thing is for sure: by and large, Georgia's fiscal outlook is far better than many other states. When we talk about crumbling roads and service cuts, we've got nothing on what's going to be required in states like California, New Jersey, and Washington to balance those budgets. I mean, despite their gut-wrenching cuts in recent years, they still face HUGE deficits in the coming years; the service cuts (and tax increases) needed to meet them will be ever more draconian. $220 million is small potatoes compared to the sums they have to conjure up to stay afloat.

Most of those states would probably be more than happy to have their most pressing fiscal debate be over which income levels are going to see their state tax liability increase/decrease by a few percent (if at all).

That's hyperbole, but today we've swung 180 degrees in the opposite direction. People have a sense of entitlement (we even call the programs they get "entitlements") and SOME are just plain and simply lazy. The work ethic among most people is sorely lacking. Maybe a little more "back to the wall" thinking would do some people some good. When nearly 2 years of unemployment benefits and countless other programs exist, and 50% of the wage earners pay no federal income tax despite a 14 trillion dollar national debt and $1.5 trillion dollar fiscal deficit for FY2011....something needs to change.

BTW...my influence is felt far beyond this forum. My influence can be felt in the 2010 election and in the money....my money that I earn....that I donate to causes and candidates. So don't for one second think that I or others with similar views aren't expressing and lobbying for our views.

No Tax advantages of any kind for anyone...Flat tax for every person, including government subsidized. If you have any kind of income, you should pay a tax based on a percentage, not on how old you are or how poor you pretend to be.
