I live in NJ... I am going to move - somewhere lol...

I have recently been looking into Tybee Island and Jekyll Island.

If you had the choice, which would you move to, and why?

I am retired (age 52) and live on a disability pension and SSD. I want to be near the beach and water. I dont care about a lot of activities or people (friends).

I have a house to sell here, and i would either buy a condo there or rent one, probably.

Thank You for your help.

You're going to need a tremendous amount of money for either. Tybee would present more options than Jekyll, but both are small islands with limited real estate. Also, both locations are quite "provincial" and look suspiciously towards outsiders. Food for thought.

Thank You.

Really, a tremendous amount for a condo? I did check first, and saw some for under $200K - but maybe if i saw them in person they would be crappy.

Also the property taxes are very low down there. I pay $4,000 a year property tax on a house (here in NJ) that they are telling me i would be listing for $160,000 at this time!

Things are rough.

Jekyll Island seemed more crowded but less cheap Florida beach town. Tybee Island seems less crowded but more cheap Florida beach town.

They're both nice, but I personally lean toward Tybee. What AuburnAL says is true.

With the way things are going, I wouldn't purchase any kind of domicile if I was on SS and disability, and especially not in a vacation spot.

One problem I have with Jekyll is that because of its' status as a state park you cannot own real estate there outright but instead must own a long-term lease to the state. I've never been comfortable with that.
