I saw some interesting info that property taxes in most of the mountain towns of N. GA are "higher than for most other Georgia communities." Dahlonega is considered especially high. Strangely, Blairsville is rated as being "lower than most Georgia communities."

Any comments? Is this a good thing... or a bad thing? (i.e., is it a matter of "you get what you pay for") Why would Dahlonega's be so high--do they have a major civic project to pay for?

Property taxes also pay for local schools. If they have had to build a lot of new ones lately, they could be adding extra to pay off the building bonds.

Almost all of central and south Georgia have low property taxes outside of large metro areas. You do need to locate a county with sufficient industry, however, for the best rate.
