Yes, Johns Creek 2010 population 76,728 -- No. 9!

How long until a Metro Atlanta suburban city breaks 100,000?

North Atlanta actually was a city until the 1950s, when it was absorbed into DeKalb County. It covered roughly the area now known as Brookhaven.
Redan is located in east central DeKalb.

I would count a "city" as incorporated. There are a few new cities since the 2000 census, Johns Creek, Milton and Chattahoochee Hills. I know there are a few more I may not have mentioned, I forgot off-hand.

The newest one this year (2012) is Peachtree Corners, which is somewhat smaller in population, I think. Wiki article pegs P'tree Corners at about 31K. I think now almost all of North Fulton is incorporated after those cities were created a few years ago.
I know even for areas that have been well-known like Sandy Springs or Dunwoody became incorporated somewhat recently.

There are still many areas in metro Atlanta that are not officially incorporated but it seems like a trend that more and more areas of metro Atlanta will become incorporated due to various reasons.

The people at Yahoo seemed to have left off some of the newer ones, I guess in time those "largest city" lists will continue to be amended.

I am sure the North Atlanta CDP will drop off the Census Bureau's list at some point now that Brookhaven has become a city. Redan is a big chunk of east central Dekalb east of 285, south of Stone Mountain, north of 20.

An article I read placed Brookhaven as the 16th largest city in the state, estimated population 49k. On this guy's list it would be 15th, but this list omitted John's Creek which I believe is in the 70k range.

Don't know how some copy and paste these things, but here is a link to a map showing the rough outlines of the Redan CDP:

Did I miss something? Did Macon and Bibb consolidate? If so, it's about time.

I went to the Macon forum and found out the scoop, also googled and got the Macon paper's blurb on it. Very exciting. More Georgia cities and counties should consolidate.... specifically smaller sized counties with only one major town. Like Griffin/Spalding, Conyers/Rockdale, Douglasville/Douglas, Cumming/Forsyth, Dawsonville/Dawson...

Savannah should annex larger portions of Chatham, but a city with so many more incorporated towns already in existence makes this a more difficult proposition. Garden City, Port Wentworth, Pooler, Thunderbolt, Tybee Island, etc, etc... gets messy in a situation like this.
