I will be moving to moody afb sometime in the next few months with my husband. Is the base nice? What is the housing like? I've looked at pictures of housing online but it's hard to tell in pictures. Any personal experiences here? Any advice or suggestions or tips would be appreciated. I will be going to Valdosta state university, is it easy to get to from base? Please inform me of anything you all have to say about moody afb!!

I realize this thread is a few months old, but I will give my opinion anyways. As far as MAFB goes I would refer you to the base housing center of course. I can tell you that there are plenty of very nice new subdivision that have popped up in the last 15 years. It depends on your budget of course.

As far as VSU it is about 10 minute maybe 15 minutes from base, but Valdosta is not huge you can get from one side of town to the other within 15 min. The traffic is bad but that is because the city has grown too fast. I have read though that the growth has stopped in the last few years which is actually a good thing because it will give the county and city time to play catch up. VSU has a beautiful campus with about 11,000 students. The college of Business and also The college of Education is the biggest majors right now.

All in all the town is nice, it's not too big and not too small, unless of course you are coming from a major city like Atlanta of Chicago you'd probably take a while to get use to the slow pace. Good luck!

the drive from on-base housing to VSU is 25 minutes.

there is one newer housing development on base.

there are plenty of other subdivisions in the area of MAFB though; i would look for something closer to town though. there's nothing near the base except a grocery store and a few dollar general stores. you'll find it to be a hassle going into town every day from way out there.
