Basically the fall line. Anywhere south of Macon to Columbus is south Georgia.

I'd say that if an east-west line, basically overlapping US 280 from Cordele to Pembroke was drawn completely across the state, excluding Savannah and the Coastal areas, that would be a dividing line between Central and South GA.

It's the opinion of someone that actually lived there. Do you actually have a concept of what north and south means?

Culturally, to me the border between middle and south GA runs from Dublin to Cochran to Hawkinsville to Unadilla to Montezuma. North of this line, people work and travel to Macon/Warner Robins/Perry for amenities. South of it, very rural areas and the people no longer identify with Macon/Warner Robins. Roughly the 229 area code and the western 912 area code locales.

One way of looking at it. Another way to defining Central vs South GA division is by TV market. All the GA counties in the Albany, Tallahassee, Jacksonville TV markets, and the western counties of the Savannah TV market south of I-16 would all definitely qualify as being South GA. Most all of the counties in the Macon, Augusta, and Columbus TV markets, with the exception of Sumter, and a couple of other counties in the southern portion of the Columbus market, would be more Central!!

I see and understand the premise...

The only thing is the Columbus, Macon, and Augusta TV DMA's reach pretty far into South Georgia from the lack of large cities in the rural landscape (particularly Columbus and Macon). So one of the same things that gives the areas a South Georgia character, is what is causing it to be in a TV DMA with a larger city further north.

True. Columbus goes as far south as Americus and Ft. Gaines. Macon stations go as far south as Fitzgerald and Ocilla, even though both cities are technically in the Albany DMA!!

I noticed that.

I drove from Dothan to Macon with a stop in Americus earlier this summer. I was having a heck of a time trying to figure out where the radio stations were from. I couldn't quite make out where the stations were from as I gained and lost them.

If I'm driving south on I-75, I believe that south Georgia begins at Unadilla, where the choppy Piedmont terrain flattens out into the Gulf and Atlantic Coastal Plains.

Georgia has a lot of "rimshot" radio stations, where the largest population center is not centralized in the coverage area. What makes it even worse in south Georgia is that many of the radio stations are underpowered, with small transmitter radii.

I think this map is one of the better ones in showing the Central / South GA divide. I would say that the counties dividing the Macon and Albany DMA's is probably the best overall dividing line between the two. I would consider Sumter, Webster, Stewart, Quitman, Randolph, and Clay Counties to be South GA, even though they tend to identify more with Columbus than with Albany from a media POV. I would also include Jeff Davis, Appling, Bacon, and Wayne Counties out of the Savannah DMA. The rest of the Savannah DMA is either more East Central GA, or Coastal in culture, which has a different vibe than interior South, GA. Crisp and Ben Hill Counties are the counties out of the group that would be transitional in nature.
