Hi Everyone,

I’m posting here because I need some advice on possibly relocating to Valdosta, GA. The company I work for is promoting me BUT there are no open positions here in Houston, Texas where I currently reside. I really like the company and I’m honored to be given the chance to move into management.

I have the option of staying in my position or relocating to any of the available sites. Which are in Phoenix, Arizona - Baton Rouge, Louisiana - San Antonio, Texas - Valdosta, Georgia. I’m trying to do some research on each of the locations and decide if it’s worth the move. My hope is to eventually move back to Houston, in about two years.

My husband and Iwill take turns visiting each other as his job is in Houston and he is not able to re-locate. It will be hard, but it's something we both agreed to do for my career advancement. I need to find a place to live, my kids are grown so I do not need to be close to a school or live in a good school district. I’m truly a home body and enjoy spending time at home on my off days. What’s important to me is to find an apartment that is not overly expensive, under $700 if possible, safe and has a gym. Can anyone recommend an apartment that meets this criteria? My office will be on N. St.Augustine Rd. and I’ll like to be within a 20 minute drive if possible. Any other advice is also welcomed and appreciated. I'll post this in the other areas as well for comparison. Thanks and I look forward to your replies.

If It were me...

I would look for a job within reasonable driving distance of Houston.

Baton Rouge, Louisiana - San Antonio, Texas Both meet that, about 3hr drive.

Phoenix & Valdosta will require Getting on a airplane. That gets costly over time.

The only Airline that serves Valdosta is Delta, With a connection in Atlanta, Make each trip a Multi-Fight/Hour affair.

Tallahassee & Jacksonville are 90-120Min drive before you get onto a plane.

IAH (Bush) is a United (Almost) monoppy Airport Fare will be Higher, Even Flights into Hobby can cost more, and it would be hard to find Non/Stop, So you are stuck with UAL @ $3-400 each weekend. About the same for Phoenix also, But getting to the Phoenix airport will not require a 2hr drive to get there.

Agreed, don't know why you'd move all the way to Valdosta GA if you could take the same promotion in San Antonio or Baton Rouge. This seems like a no-brainer.

Just as an aside, both Georgia and Louisiana have state income tax. Not sure if that would be anything to consider.
