I am trying to find a family-friendly beach to take the kids to. I love the gulf coast beaches but have never been to any up on the nw side of FL. Anyone know of some good areas to look at? Thanks for the help!

Santa Rosa Beach right by Destin in FL is really nice, really reasonable and very family friendly. Not crowded, clean beaches, nice little restaurants. We have also been to St Simons which is family friendly as well with a cute downtown and lots and lots of parks for the kids to go to on a cloudy day. I prefer Santa Rosa only because I like the blue waters of the Gulf but both places are great for families.

Not NW FL, but for families (especially those on a budget) Jekyll Island has nice beaches, very affordable beachside hotels, golf and tennis, and a newly refurbished and expanded water park.

TYBEE! TYBEE! TYBEE! RAH! RAH! RAH!

On second thought it might be a little "lame" for teens and tweens. Not much action and no amusement places. BUT it's very family friendly and clean. Close to Savannah if you like some good cookin' and the riverfront. About 6-6.5 hrs from here.

Panama city is just a hick surf stop / college binge town. You could go a few miles though to Greyton. Check out the state park there where you can rent a nice cabin for about $100/night. There's a neat beach town right next to it where even the retail shops are themed like the homes.

St. George island is very family friendly and off the college scene. Nice and quiet for the family.

My kids love the cheesy amusements that Panama City Beach has to offer. The other gulf beach areas are nicer in appearance but lack some of the fun outlets (amusement parks, goofy golf, maze, etc) so it depends on what your family is looking for. If you just want a nice place and a beach and don't need the other distractions, go to the others.

I just love Panama City Beach, felt it needed some defense. It is more than the previous poster leads one to believe. It is cheesier in some aspects, but that is part of the charm, at least to me.
