Just curious on what people think is Georgia's greatest draw for tourists? What would you rank as the "must-see" place for any tourist to Georgia, if they had only one place they could visit.
If you can think of any others not listed in the poll, please list and explain why.

I agree with Savannah as the first choice among these, since it arguably is the most popular tourist destination for people outside the state.
I believe that to Georgians, however, St. Simons' Lighthouse is a bigger deal than Tybee's.

Everyone is forgetting Stone Mountain.

Stone Mountain has roughly 4 million visitors per year and at least according to their web site, is one of or the most popular tourist destination in the State.

I guess that would be considered a metro Atlanta attraction... which is an option in the poll.
But I wonder how many visitors to Stone Mountain are metro Atlanta locals and for those who visit from Outside the Atlanta metro, is Stone Mountain their primary reason for visiting or is it just one of many attractions they visit while in the Atlanta area?

I would be interesting to see a breakdown of most visited attractions.

I know for years it was Stone Mountain at #1 and Six Flags at #2. I believe the Aquarium is now far and away the most popular attraction, but I don't have the numbers.

You are correct with Stone Mountain being quite a blend of locals & visitors. Many friends of mine like to jog there on a daily basis, and have the annual sticker to come and go as they please. It would be hard to do a breakdown of who's visiting, and from where.

According to this old press release, they had more than 3.5 million visitors in their first year (they expected 2 million). I think (but am not sure) that the 2nd year had more like 2.5 million and this year has slacked off just a bit from that. Once the Dolphin exhibit opens I'm sure there will be a surge again.

Kind of hard to measure this. The word "destination" is rather broad. For example, Savannah is a destination but it's an entire City and folks go there for any number of reasons - as in, Savannah itself may not be a destination for someone, but something IN it might be. Stone Mountain is a destination but it's a park that has a number of things/reasons to go. The Aquarium is a single facility, etc.

Yeah, I know, I'm being analytical.
