So far I am the only McBerry voter.

Well I for one liked Roy Barnes.I thought he did a good job and cared about the State more than the Position.His ideas were progressive.He also created GRTA.It was Sonny Perdue that scaled it back and put the focus back on roads.
Roy Barnes only lost because he changed the flag because of all the heat the other states wre dealing with as in boycotts.He would have been pretty much a shoe in.Remember Zell Miller tried that too and almost lost re-election.

Personally I could care less about the flag.But its a sad state when people use that as an excuse to release an elected official.But love it or not that's Georgia.

John Oxendine in my opinion is just checking off boxes on his resume'.I also see him as an opportunist.How many other states is the Insurance Commisioner CONSTANLY mentioned by name in the news as he seems to be.


Eric Johnson is such a divisive prick in my opinion.An Atlanta hater with no progressive plans at all.

What about McBerry? I remember when that jerk off Barnes changed the rightful flag of Georgia instead of letting Georgians pick our flag like they did in Mississippi. I loved those signs boot barnes! Course we elected another moron in Perdue who said he would let us choose then let us pick between the current flag and that ugly blue one Barnes put up.In my book they are both traitors to Ga.

Wow, no wonder why this state can't get anywhere anymore. People are more concerned about a stupid flag instead of the actual problems facing Georgia (oh you know... like education, transportation, jobs, water, etc)

I am worried about those issues as well.The fact remains that is what Barnes will be remembered for in his term as Governor. He screwed Georgians out of a chance to choose for themselves and in the end it cost him his job. Also that flag isn't stupid thanks.

Traitors to GA?Well if trying to move this state kicking and screaming into the future by doing things differently then call me a traitor too.What about the traitors that allowed for our schools to be ranked dead last or near bottom over the last 60 years,the same ones like Eric Johnson who really thinks our most pressing issue is "immigration",or Nathan Deal who thinks "We got all the complaints of the ghetto grandmothers who didn't have birth certificates and all that.".Talk about no substance and with no new ideas.Georgia politics.We have not had a decent Gov.Since Zell.Even he after getting out has changed alot.

How come you rarely hear people say things like this in the wealthy,more educated areas.

I agree with the above. And most folks don't remember that he (Barnes) was also in the beginning survey stages of getting a couple of new water reservoirs going in the North metro area, too. That was going to be one of the themes of his second admin if he had been voted in - to have at least two new reservoirs completed by the end of his second term. They would have been at least half full when the drought hit us too, had they been built. In 8 years since, Perdue never even started to think about it.

While I agree that Barnes should have known better and stayed out of the 'flag flap" considering where he knew he lived, I found it funny that back during all of the protests, a network news reporter made up a posterboard that had numerous flags of Georgia's past on it, but unlabled as to what years they were the State flag. He walked up to several protestors at the Capital who were holding the "Boot Barnes!" and "Preserve our heritage" signs, and asked them to please name the flags in order from the earliest to the most recent. None of them could. For folks so interested in preserving "heritage", that was rather odd, and when told this, they became quite irritated with the reporter. Odd. Like many transplants though, I don't care about a flag. I'm originally from West Virginia, and our flag has for the most part been the same since we became a state. Georgia has had at least 7 or more flags, so I don't see how anyone can claim any one of them as a "heritage symbol" - but hey, it's not my home state - whatever.

There were many many Perdue supporters who by now have a bad taste in their mouth about the guy. Everyone I work with voted for the guy, and they all can't stand him now. I would hope when election time comes up they remember how a promise of flag restoration (that never came to be, actually) isn't all that's needed for someone to make positive changes for the State. I won't even get into Oxendine - years ago when he was caught misusing his magnetic emergency light to go through red lights that was bad enough, but once his kid shot a guy while hunting and he blew it off like it was a joke, I realized "Um.. no".

You can read all about people's feelings about the rebel flag in another thread (or two), but it is correct that the previous flag that stood until last decade was introduced in 1956 as a means of showing support for segregation. Other southern states did similar things. It was racially motivated and had nothing to do with "heritage" or history.

As for Barnes having all these great plans, part of being a good politician and leader is being able to pass your agenda. I'm not great fan of Perdue, but I don't see Barnes as a solution to our problems. Just watching his latest commercials on TV makes me cringe. Typical Democrat ads...."I'll give you a bunch of stuff if you vote for me" but don't worry about where I get the money.

It's not the flag itself I was labeling stupid, it's the fact that people actually vote because of a flag (over all the other pressing issues) is what's stupid. Besides, the new flag has more "heritage" than the old one.

I think Barnes had (and still has) some great ideas and was unfortunately unable to follow through with them because he changed a flag -apparently a very "important" issue in this state! I agree with atlantagreg about Oxendine...
