2014 was the 2nd snowiest winter on record, not a good reference for what is normal either. Which was also the snowiest and coldest winter for pretty much everyone north of the mason dixon. What about 2012 which was warmer than this winter? Remember 85 degrees on St. Pattys day?

I have family in Las Vegas, so have been visiting there more frequently lately. It really is a very different vibe in Michigan regarding the population .... far less transient. I found Las Vegas/Henderson areas to be very spread out compared to Grand Rapids. Took a surprisingly long time to get around. Certainly, the climate here will be a huge change, much colder, more humidity (but that can be good) a lot more snow in GR. Less sunshine will take getting used to. Green and beautiful in Michigan! No palm trees, many beautiful shade trees. It really is a matter of taste and flexibility. The decrease in sunlight in winter, especially compared to Nevada, can be upsetting to people who aren't accustomed to it.

I just got back from a sunny-and-high-80's every day climate and while I enjoyed the sun, I found it oppressive after 8 straight days of it. It is interesting what the body assimilates to. Wouldn't mind a happy medium more often. Luckily it's warm 70's and partly cloudy back here in GR!
