I'm new to the GR area and have a dog and I like beer and i'm wondering if there's a place in this city where I can combine the two...While traveling in Portland I went to a really cool brewpub called The Lucky Labrador and it had a really nice atmosphere- low key, unpretentious, solid beer, a bunch of cougars, heh. It would be great if there was a place like that around here!

Also, wondering what the best brewpubs are in this town and what the craft beer scene is like, if anyone has any info on that i'd appreciate it. Hopcat is a real gem, anywhere else?
Thanks

That is a violation of health code, so if there are places that allow it, you probably won't hear them crowing about it online.

I know Schmoz used to do this, but someone complained and they now have signs posted prohibiting it.

If you've been to HopCat, you've also probably been to Founders. That is the key to the craft brew scene here. Visit early and visit often.

Schmoz brewery on Patterson between Burton and 28th is worth a visit.

The Hideout brewery up on Plainfield is also worth a visit.

Since you're here in West Michigan, you should drive to the other major breweries in the area: Bell's in Kalamazoo, New Holland Brewing in Holland, Arcadia in Battle Creek and Short's Brew in Bellaire (which is further afield, but worthy of a weekend trip).

Alright, i'll have to check Founders out bc I actually haven't been there yet. Ahh, people and their complaints. I hate when people complain about stuff like that. I guess I have a different mentality than most people, I can't imagine ever complaining unless it was an aggressive dog, but it seems like the dog friendly pub scene would be pretty, uh, friendly...oh well

You might be allowed to keep your dog on the Founders front porch. (cafe)
