...it didn't give you a buzz or alter your consciousness? Does it taste good to you on it's own or because it will make you feel good? I remember the first time I tried an alcoholic drink and couldn't believe how awful it tasted. I like getting relaxed with a glass of wine, but certainly would not drink even the finest wine if it didn't give me a little buzz. What's your opinion on this?
Anyone who drinks just for the taste needs to get their taste buds checked. Either that or they've got too much money they desperately need to get rid of.
I might drink the occassional beer... the better stuff tastes good. And you have to admit, nothing else tastes at all like beer. So if it didn't have alcohol in it, it would still be an interesting drink.
This post makes me think of many wine drinkers I know. They talk as if the alcohol has nothing to do with their enjoyment. But they end up drinking a bottle or more a day, 5 days a week. I think they are deluding themselves.

Reason: forgot something
Though beer is an exception to that - it's rare that I crave it, but every 2-3 years I HAVE to have a taste - but just a sip or two will satisfy me.
When I was about 8 months pregnant with my youngest, I had a mad craving for it. My dh was outside with a neighbor having a couple on the porch, so I joined them just as the neighbor's 16 year old daughter walked up. She started CRYING about my "poor baby" that would be "born addicted to alcohol now"! lol - That's public school brainwashing for ya folks!
I actaully will not drink anyhtig that doesn't taste good to me.I hate wine for instances but like good champagne.I drink things becasue i like the taste but the I never drink enough to really feel it or rarely. One drink if I am driving is my limit even then.

I enjoy the taste of good beer. By good I mean microbrew and things of that nature. I also enjoy a good single malt scotch.
I'd don't know if I'd drink them without the buzz, but thankfully I don't have to make that choice.
There is all sorts of alcohol free beer and wine (although the taste sucks). They don't sell much of it. What does that tell you?
Alcohol is consumed in such high quantities, because its the only mind altering drug legal. Therefore, carries very little social consequences (except, drinking and driving, etc).
