Actually, the upside in KS has been a few bills they have pushed through and this one is also a winner in restricting abortion and recognizing the rights of all people: Kansas governor signs far-reaching anti-abortion bill | Reuters

Another empty, symbolic gesture from the American Taliban.

Kansas will spend millions of dollars fighting this in the courts, fights that they already know they will lose just so they can appease the religious wackos that comprise the GOP base and build up Brownback's street cred as a hard right Christian warrior.

If MEN could get pregnant, you'd better believe they would have free birth control for everyone AND they would allow abortion on demand regardless of reason.

The bill doesn't protect "people" as the OP says -- it protects a few cells that have no feelings and are often flushed out of a woman's body before she even knows she's pregnant. What a sad, sad day in Kansas.

People who are against abortion under ANY circumstances are also usually against health care covering birth control (HOW STUPID) and sex ed. in schools (HOW STUPID). If people were REALLY against abortion, they would WANT health care to cover birth control and they would WANT everyone to have comprehensive sex education. Those things would stop the problem of "too many abortions" at its SOURCE. But, no!!!!

You must be joking.

Oh, you're not joking?

This is the bill to which Brownback scrawled the words "Jesus and Mary" on the top margin, right?

Sure you're not joking?

The legislation is unconstitutional and I'd bet anything a court blocks it. States can pass limits on abortions, but this is another thinly veiled attempt to outlaw abortion entirely, which states are not allowed to do. I've had it up to here with legislators insisting that every fertilized egg result in a live birth and then voting to take food out of their mouths when they reach school age.

Brownbackistan indeed. Keep your $#&^% religion out of the legislature.

I won't weigh in on abortion, but the misconception that these laws are "unconstitutional" is simply wrong. Roe v Wade did not change the Constitution, it changed the interpretation of it.

They don't want to teach sex Ed in the school, then don't want to help you with the birth control to not get pregnant in the first place, then they want to restrict abortions, soon Kansas will be Mississippi : a place with highest teen pregnancy rates and unwanted unadopted children

You are aware that in KS, Wichita, that is where they were doing the late term abortions where they pulled the babies into the birth canal and cut their spinal cords?
