Yes, the "good old days" are gone and will never come back.
Thanks to our government who has imported millions of ignorant 3rd-worlders who will number among the nations poor, as well as those the government has allowed to enter illegally who are taking jobs from the already poor and adding to our welfare rolls.

We are now over-populated with poor people who are putting a burden upon the middle class, many of whom are slipping into the "poor" catagory.

Together we are over-populated which puts a burden upon our resources such that only the rich will live normally; like in ancient times when only the royals had it good.

What are the signs of decline?

1. Continued budget stimulus from the Fed, 4 years after the end of the last recession.
2. Continued drop in the birth rate.
3. A recent article on CNBC's web site indicated that the "recovery" has only been a recovery for the top 5% percent on the income bracket. All the rest are still stuck in a recession.
4. Another recent article indicated that the recovery has only been regional, in the middle of the country.
5. Massive budget deficit by our government that continues to grow.
6. 14% unemployment/underemployment rate.
7. 80% of new jobs are part time.

There are other signs of deterioration, breakdown of the family structure, immorality and demands for more and more money from the government.

So are there any optimists in the crowd?
I can only comment on the bolded. I have noticed a strengthening of family within my own family, with my friends and immediate community. You say you are planning, maintaining family structure takes planning as well as other factors. It doesn't just happen. It has to be intentional.

As far as immorality, are you immoral? I know many people who are not. I will admit that I stay away from mainstream media and entertainment so that may be a reason why I don't see it.
