Ukraine.

Much has been said about the US and other western countries recognizing the "new" President of the Ukraine yet saying the referendum in Crimea is contrary to law, specifically the Ukrainian Constitution.

What part of the Ukrainian Constitution allowed for and made legal the ousting of the "former" President? I mean, how can on one hand, protesters get rid of the existing President, claim they are the now the legitimate government while at the same time saying a referendum in Crimea is not so?

It wasn't as if the entire country came out in protest of the then in power President, it was organized protesters funded by some very wealthy people. If you take their concerns as valid, elections were going to be held within a year.

Saying the then President fled isn't really valid, they would have strung him up and executed him, who wouldn't run? That isn't the same as giving up office, which he did not.

It seems we have a bad base of two mouths talking at that same time for convenience.

The question remains though, what part of the constitution in Ukraine allowed for protesters to oust a sitting President? It wasn't like millions of people were protesting, just as many did not protest.

Why don't you just go THERE and fix it? Nothing is more annoying than a someone on the other side of the globe, "knowing better" how it all should be done. Same category as fans that never touched the grass, sit blotted in front of big screen TV, and tell players "how it needs to be done".
Like I said - go THERE and by your personal example of valor, social courage, and political wisdom, show them poor minds how it needs to be done.
Also, are you really that naive not to see and ongoing pattern in the world? Iraq, Afghanistan, Syria, Lybia, now Ukraine and next Iran? All done to same templated coupe'd'etate plan? By same forces? For what it is, Russia should have been back in Poland and pre-Baltic republics few years ago, to prevent NATO bases in their backyard. Who do you think it's all pointed at?
Two-mouthed telling? WHEN was it not? When was the last time you re-read Protocols, to refresh your memory on who, what, how, and why?

You pose a legitimate question, Mack, and while I'm no expert on the region, history states it has been a contested region for centuries, and "Ukraine" proper wasn't its own country before 1991. So it seems there is precedent for separation in the area and the Crimea people have a right to self-determination.

I don't profess to know all that much about Ukraine or Crimea either (except some studies of the Crimean war) but what I see is a hypocrisy when the overthrow of a sitting president is considered legal and embraced for political reasons and a referendum is declared illegal and contrary to the country's constitution. I simply note that overthrowing the sitting president isn't in the constitution either and the entire or even majority of Ukraine wasn't out in the streets, it was more of something orchestrated by the same oligarchs that switch allegiance according to their bank accounts than anything else.

I also see that once more, we're getting dragged in (or pulled in) to another mess which isn't really our business.

There was an election scheduled, one prescribed by the constitution and it didn't happen, yet that isn't mentioned when all the talk about legalities goes on.
