Catch 22. So few black STEM grads (college grads in general) and not only that, of those few even FEWER would qualify. Meh.

Are you suggesting Google should not hire the most qualified applicant?

How many blacks have even applied for positions at Google? Have you ran an impact ratio analysis on this?

The NBA is all about diversity also, but what is that? Oh yes, the majority of their players are black, even though they represent how much of the population? DO you suggest the NBA should not hire the most qualified player?
Could people really stop using the NBA example. False equivalent. And what color are the OWNERS? See what I did there?

The NBA has less than 1,000 players. Google has 49,829 people working for hem. There's a big different. Is there a bias in both cases, yes. Does it make it right? No!

Actually, it's a perfect example because you're comparing the total work force of google to the total "work force" of the NBA(which includes players). And in both cases, talent is the deciding factor.

Just because there's more of a particular race doesn't mean a higher percentage of them are the most qualified.

I think people are upset looking at the answer instead of the entire problem. People don't like wars, but rarely seem to look closely at what caused the war.

I'm a liberal and I don't think Google is in the wrong in this situation. Please don't generalize. There are rational liberals just like there are rational conservatives.

A lot of this has to do with socialization. Meaning that the academic path that people choose has a lot to do with this. It may be a matter of exposing STEM occupations and activities to a particular group or set of youth and do it in a way where they can see themselves doing that line of work.

Also, I think Google's location has a lot to do with this as well. Like someone mentioned, take a look at the demographics of the surrounding area.

Can we just go out and round up some minorities and send them to the Google plantation to work? If they dont really want to work there, we could chain them or have bounty hunters get them back if they run. I understand we have a pretty good model of that work environment to work off of from the early 1800's.
