Who says that you renounce your identity because you have children? Not every parent is a mommy martyr. I still have my identity -- maybe that's why it never occurred to me to stop working and I make sure that my husband and I spend some quality time together as much as we can. Also, either of us are free to have individual days to spend with friends or by ourselves while the other person watches the kids. As a couple, you just work things out. Just because it isn't all about me me me anymore doesn't mean that I am capitulating in any way. It merely means that my world is expanding - no different than when I had to get used to having a spouse. It's just an adjustment, is all.

I'd have to say its quite natural and perhaps the selfish society we live in wants to make it some type of problem. After all other species see the same way.

I think part of it is religion that is about be fruitful and multiply and part of it is wanting what your parents had or societal pressure to not be a spinster.

the USA is not even near the top of any list of over populating and bearing multiple children its quite the opposite

This thread has now gotten to the point that either the same points are being made that have been brought up earlier, posts that need to be deleted, or short statements. That means it has been debated out.
