So sick of hearing about all these fools wanting to move to Syria to join Isis.
If that isn't treason, then I don't know what is.
Instead of arresting and charging them with terrorism, they should be charged with treason (as that is what it is) and do as they did way back when, publicly hang the bastards.

Bob.

Well, first of all, if I wanted to watch people die in public, I'd just move to Syria (see the irony there).

And we can't kill people for SAYING they'll do something. If they successfully join ISIS and attempt to attack the US, do what needs to be done, which would probably be killing them immediately because they are attacking. And if they simply join, oh well. Absolutely no point in spending money on trying to find a guy who's probably gonna get shot by someone eventually anyway, as your chances of dying violently shoot way up when you step into the Middle East.

So charge them with treason if you like, but saying they plan to betray the US can't really result in death from a strictly moral standpoint.

Maybe Syria's got more to offer them than they're gettin in their own country.
Maybe they'll be treated with respect there...and they ain't here.
Maybe they'll feel "wanted" over there.... and they're not here.

if they get caught fighting for a terrorist group, then yank their citizenship and deport them back to syria if they try to come back to the USA.

I would not mind seeing that at all either.

Just let them go. Why would we want them to remain here among us?

But once they've left US airspace, cancel their passports and US citizenship/residency and never allow them to return.

Why clog up the courts when we can just shuffle them off to be suicide bombers in the middle east and we'll never have to deal with again?

Maybe we should start offering to pay their airfare one way.

I agree...it is treason to turn on your country.

Colloquially speaking I would agree with you, unfortunately literally speaking it isn't. The Constitution is specific about what constitutes treason and what doesn't.

Article III
Treason against the United States, shall consist only in levying War against them, or in adhering to their Enemies, giving them Aid and Comfort. No Person shall be convicted of Treason unless on the Testimony of two Witnesses to the same overt Act, or on Confession in open Court.
Maybe if the Congress got around to declaring war on ISIL or whatever its called then we might get our wish. Until then we'll just have to settle for the Federal crime of providing material support for terrorism.

Letting them go will solve no problems. They will be taking information about the workings of our country, society, and more people just like themselves to syria and will use that against the good people of the US.

That sounds like what a liberal politician came out with after the Boston Marathon bombing 2 years ago. She said "maybe they wouldn't have bombed the marathon if we showed them more love"
NO lady they were given all manner of welfare they simply hated us.

I say anyone that leaves this country to take up arms or help out an enemy of this country is committing treason and should be shot, hung or outright banned from ever returning to or entering any other country allied with America.

Another thing: When a deserter is killed in a US drone strike I don't want our President or anyone else getting up to apologise for the killing.

Some say let them go, and suspend their passport.
That is just bull.
What about the ones working for Isis that never leave this country?
They plot destruction right with in our country.
If that isn't treason, then what do you call it.
Again, catch them, try them, and have a public hanging so other followers can see what path that will lead too.

Bob.
