America is just about the only county in the world where Christian dogma is still held as fundamentally binding in public life as Islam is in some Muslim countries.
I doubt if there is a country in Europe where Intelligent Design is even a discussion issue, much less a statutorily enforced part of the curriculum in public education.
It is very regionalized. People generalize for the US, what is essentially a regional phenomenom. It is largely southern, and rural, and some sometimes suburban. But the US in general, is not nearly as religious as people think. It is more of a mixed bag and a patchwork, with some areas more religious, and some areas less so.
