causing disruption amongst those of more tender upbringing.

The Artist has depicted a man and his dog peeing on a pole...

What's amazing is that Europeans would find this laughable... and should so, imho.

It reminds me of the politician(s) a few years back who wanted to censor the statues in D.C.

Gimmie a break. I guess we should recreate the works of Michaelango while we're at it.

If I ever hit the lottery I'm off to other pastures. Geez.

It's art, but it's low class art.

Seems to me that one of the "powers that be" in Ft. Myers let their 10 year old kid pick out the art.

Nope, wouldn't be offended by it, just would ask for my tax dollars back.

There are images of dogs urinating all over my town. Most of them say don't do it on our lawn or something like that. And there's always a picture of a dog doing it.

Here, in Las Vegas, at one of the casino resorts, someone opened up a Russian style restaurant, and parked a statue of Lenin outside the entrance. Believe it or not, due to the outrage of Lenin representing communism, the owner had his head lopped off, and now the statue stands there headless!

I love outdoor sculpture of all kinds, way too little of it to adorn our cities! Let it stay!

I've always thought that's what The Thinker was really doing.

Many people in Houston were very offended when they saw this public art exhibition:

Discovery Green statues - art or porn?
by elnina, on Flickr

People called it porn, and were upset that those statues were located in a public park.
Lots of negative reaction was reported by local news. Some prude moms and pops said those sculptures belong to a strip club, and they will not take their 12-14 daughters to the park anymore. Others panicked and covered their kids eyes.
We seem to be a nation filled with full grown immature children. An average American is so uneducated about their own body that they constantly correlate nudity with sexuality. And that's why most can't tell the difference between an art nude and pornography like our European, African and Asian neighbors who can differentiate between the two.
I just feel sorry for those close minded, philistine individuals.

"Wings of the City" has been viewed by millions of people in more than 200 outdoor and indoor exhibits worldwide, but in the US nude art = pornography, and therefore does great harm to children and to adults, and we should go to great lengths to protect our children from exposure to naked images.

Agreed! People must spend hours and hours sandpapering their skin just to make sure that it is thin enough.

I don't see what anyone should "interpret" from a statue of a man peeing on the sidewalk. What's next? A statue of a woman removing a tampon? A teenager popping a zit? How about someone straining due to constipation?

WHY should the public be subjected to "art" depicting things we as a society consider private, bathroom activities? This isn't even in a museum, where one can choose to go see it or not. It's right out on a street in downtown.

It's not that I am "offended," but rather I just find it stupid and low-class.

"Private bathroom activities?" A lot of people that I know, across all SES classes and especially males, have peed on the street at one time or another.

My interpretation is this happens on the streets of Florida or in "Any Town, USA." Maybe trying to make the viewer think about that. The fact that "you are here, but you could be anywhere." OR be happy you are HERE where this is NOT happening.

Do women EVER take their tampons out in the street?? Teens pop zits in the street? Do people leave the public bathroom door open when constipated?

There is no comparison.

Not all art is "high class." That is one thing that is so great about art.

This is the direct result of telling kids to "get a real job" such as Doctor, lawyer, economist, etc., and marginalize the arts to the point of blatant ignorance!

Great job America!
