India is in Asia, so they are technically Asian.
Answers may vary depending on who to ask. I figure most people believe that the only Asians are those from Japan, China and so forth, but Asia covers a lot of ground, and even a little bit into the Pacific Ocean.
The terms "Asian moms" and "Asian Americans" are understood to include those of Indian descent. By Indian, I mean those from India, not Native Americans.
Interesting question. I've always tended to think of India as its own culture and ethnicity. I suppose there are parallels to what we consider Asian , , but their religious, warrior and general culture are a bit divergent from nations like China, Korea and especially Japan. The languages bear no similarity, and India is its own continent. All in all I would say Indians are Indians.
I got into a very friendly argument about this with a Pakistani friend one day (and of course, Pakistan used to be part of India). My position was that Pakistan and India were not Asian, but he said they most definitely were. I think what trips many of us up is that we tend to look at Indian and Pakistan culturally more than anything else, and to me the culture is distinctly different than what I think of as Asian culture.
