There really isn't much "for the world to see"; at least not much substance that really matters. It's like some strange mirror. They look into it, seeing themselves online, and get impression of celebrity or status, while the mirror only reflects a trivial life of unimportance. You could sample dozens of people, and basically find a similar bunch of clones.

Long long ago I had a childhood friend who was quite full of himself. I remember a dinner table conversation, someone said who gets the (whatever dish) first?
He said, "I will, for I am famous!" He was maybe 10 and already quite impressed with himself.
My father said, "I will, because I'm great!"
That has stuck with me forever, in this age when so many seek fame as if being known, like a movie star or athlete or some moron on some TV show is an accomplishment in itself. And how in our age of studied ignorance, greatness is not even understood.
