If a president turns 70 during their first term, it would make them uneligible to run for second term. Even in good health, 70 + is too old for the stress of the oval office.
Young Presidents will be coming before you know it. This is likely the last of the boomers. GenX is too small. We'll be on millennials for 2028.

No, as the system now lets people decide if they think the person running is too old. Just looking at Trump and Biden, both over 70 years of age, look at the difference between the two. Mental sharpness can really vary, and that is important. On the other end, with the minimum age, we also decide whether that person is experienced and/or mature enough for the job. Let the people decide with their vote.

Either way, most people in their 70s have physical ailments that are just a natural part of getting old. [moderator edit]
Funny you should use males as the example...

Anyway, 76 is the average, as in half die older and half younger. If you are running for president with even middling chances of winning chances are you are doing fairly well economically and are getting good medical care so chances are you'll be living longer. And if you're a female, so much the better!

If candidates would be required to get a physical and mental acuity test by several doctors and have to meet some minimum then that would be even more indicative of overall health than using something a broad as just age.

Candidates are not required to do that and since it would be politicians who would have to vote in such a requirement its never going to happen. Especially since the leaders in congress are mostly over 76 years old.

But making it to 76 and being able to mentally perform at a very high level are two different things. I think the best and brightest should be in charge in Washington not just those who waited their turn long enough or have enough money to essentially buy elected office.

I think everyone should be more concerned to make a push for term limits of congress. That place is a complete mess on both sides. I’m so tired of looking at pelosi and Mitch I could vomit.

Seeing as how discussion has petered out and this thread has now taken on more of the characteristics of a poll, this thread has apparently run its course. If anyone still feels that there is more to add to the debate and has something new to contribute, please send me a DM and I will reopen the thread. Thank you.
