It's true, people are living longer today than they did 20-30 years ago. 20-30 years ago would be the years 1990-2000 and it was quite common for many - if not most - people to live well into their 70's and even into their 80's.

That pesky old Constitution might get in the way. Anything else you'd like to change while you're arbitrarily deciding things?

After seeing the performance of certain young congresspersons, I wouldn't be opposed to the minimum age of all legislators to be 35.

I'm not so sure that 18 year olds being able to vote is a good decision either. Even 28 year old's political decision making is questionable.

No taxation without representation, right? Can't vote, can't pay taxes. At least they don't need to worry about being drafted by someone they haven't voted for, right?

There are people in their 80's (even 90's) who are more knowledgeable and sharper than people half their age. They obviously have a lot more experience as well.

I always find it strange how those who think discrimination against someone based on race, religion, or gender (now even sexual orientation) are ok with discrimination based on age.

A person should be judged on their individual capabilities, not some arbitrary age limit.

One of my reasons for age limits is also related to having people retire so younger people have a chance. If politicians hold the space for 30 years, how will any other people gain the experience and have an opportunity to lead and govern as well.

Some people are vigorous into their 70s or beyond. Some not.

Experience and wisdom accumulate with age, at least in a best case scenario.

It's up to the voters.

I have long been an advocate for people being able to elect whomever they want. That's why I don't believe in term limits. But I do favor age restrictions for running for national elective office, including the presidency and congress. As a 70 year old, I know I couldn't do that job. And, I think 70 is the right age for the restriction -- you can take office once you are 70, but you can finish out your term.

The problem with this is that I don't agree with the arbitrariness of setting lower age laws.

For example, you can join the military at age 17, kill people in the desert, but not have a beer.

That makes no sense.

And those older people (and I'm 70) can serve their country in other ways, such as being advisors, but not be president.
