Sure, it's more or less true.

It operates on the same exponential assumption as the question, "Would you rather have $1,000 today, or start with a penny today and have it double every day for a month?"


I know several thousand people - though I certainly wouldn't call most of them my friend. If you then multiply each of those thousands of people by all the people they know... Well, the math begins to speak for itself.
