Anybody here qualify?
Turning your back on an aggressor merely gets you hit from behind. The question is what did you say or do to him to get him angry in the first place?

well europe was going under and 25 million were already dead. we had tried sitting on our hands in WWI did not work out too well. germany was about 2 months from A bomb and jets. hitlers idea was WMD aka super weapons, could trump numbers, he was right so we needed to do something.

That's specious. It is a theory being floated by a writer who is roughly the equivalent of Erich von Daniken, and is not based on anything verifiable, and on plenty imaginary.

Yes, you are quite right... for a nation of Amish.

As for those well-defended shores, before a single GI fired a shot or dropped a bomb in anger, the Germans from January of 1942 till June of the same year, sank 397 ships, totaling 2 million tones at a cost of over 5,000 lives along the Eastern seaboard of the United States. But what the hey.

Only those ships carrying supplies to their enemies. If we had been sending materiel to them, they wouldn't have sunk those ships. If we refused to trade with Europe, there wouldn't have been any sinkings.

...Hitler was bound by a promise to Japan to also declare war on the US. He did so promptly on Dec 11 and after that all restrictions on German U-boats (which had been attacked and hunted by US convoy escorts in the North Atlantic for the last 5-6 months of 1941 anyway without permission to attack the US escorts) not to attack American shipping were removed.

Sure, AFTER they declared war on us, it was open season on American shipping. Prior to that--from your own source--American shipping wasn't to be sunk.

O.K...

One more time...

The violently expansionist racist criminally imperialist regime in Japan attacked us.
The murderous violently expansionist criminal racist fascist regimes in Germany and Italy declared war on us as part of a deal they made with the Japanese....

And then they lost....

One more time, we froze their assets, basically stealing their money, and blocked their purchase of oil in the Pacific. Instead of minding our own business. Of course they attacked.

Just imagine the money that was made manufacturing, transporting and using the weapons by the owners of our weapons industry supplying WW2. It was so much they had to continue the production by creating the Cold War and all the conflicts since.

One of our options was to supply both sides of each hemispherical conflict and then nuking the winner.
