Representative Barney Frank in the 1990's requested Fannie Mae to give greater assistance to those who cannot put down enough money for a mortgage. Since they could not he then said that is OK, then just give them the mortgage anyway, so to speak of.
Is it proper to continue to challenge the representatives we elect, the media and others for their roll to kep our country aligned with the blue collar workers who were thriving on Americanism before rules changed midstream?
When do we get the respect which we are due? I hope ASAP otherwise our representatives will be telling the voters what they want from us.
Regarding the particular mortgage issue, America is in trouble because the nightmare of home ownership has always been called a dream by the highly profitable home building industries, and the Americans swallowed it hook line and sinker. There is absolutely nothing praiseworthy about owning your own home, nor in most cases is it even desirable, given the increased mobility of the American citizenry and the frivolity of their employers.
Barney Frank. like everyone, earnestly believe that people ought to own their own home, and with all due credit, did what he could to bring about that end, cataclysmic as it was sure to be.
Frank, however, served honorably and ably and diligently in that office for decades, and it is tragically unfair to single out one single line from one single speech he delivered to castigate him as an enemy of the American people.
The House is kind of a crazy place compared to the senate;not alot of debate then amendments. The leadership pretty much contols everything but the vote. Often they follow the leadership because they depend on them for contributions. The leadership spend alot of time getting those contributions. But they are very responsive to e-mails and cals if its heavy volume from voters because districts are fairly small. So yes ;elections are really not enough becuase they depend on bring home the bacon to their area unless they see a alot of opposition to a bill.

I keep hammering on this point because it seems like total news to so many people: THIS IS A DEMOCRACY. The word means "ruled by the people." It is not only possible and desirable, but OUR. FREAKING. JOB. to tell them what we want and expect out of them.
The problem is we can't challenge the representatives we don't elect. If Nancy Pelosi, for example, is acting up, does she care if some person in Tennessee thinks she's a twit? I think we'd be better off putting pressure on the people who vote for these kings and queens who are in office for life and push for term limits. I'd rather see the House of Representatives not run for office every two years...every 4 years would be fine with 2 terms and they're out. Two terms for the Senate would be plenty, too.
Sure we can challenge them. If she, or any elected official, wants to be re-elected, they need to do what her constituents want.
Cliffie, you didn't read her post at all, did you. It's all just kneejerk, you have the same set of simplistic responses, one size fits all. She lives in Tennessee, and Pelosi's name is only on the ballot in one California district.. The post was only 5 lines long, and you have no comprehension what she is talking about.
You do know, don't you, that for more than 10% of all USA voters in 2008, there was no choice on the ballor for Congress. The incumbents (including mine) ran unopposed, so I had the same choice Iraqis had last time they re-elected Saddam Hussein---one name on the ballot. If there had been two choices, it would have been a tough call between Saddam Hussein and Ron Paul.
