I know there are preachers who make a LOT of money from book sales, etc (Joel Osteen comes to mind). But I seriously doubt there are any that make anywhere near $1 million per year, in salary, from a church.

I think it's also relevant to note that a $50,000 per year salary will go a long ways for a guy living in a rural area, but it's not much for a guy living in an expensive urban area.
I will not list names. I didn't ask you to believe me. I ask how would you feel about a preacher who receives a million dollar salary. Rather it's true or not it's interesting to see what people think about it.

Oh, okay. It's purely hypothetical.

Well, first of all, I'll say that I really don't believe that there are preachers making a million a year from the church they pastor. I could be wrong, but...

Second, I'd say it's pretty much whatever a church decides to pay the preacher. I guess it's their business.

I doubt, though, that I'd be very interested in being a part of that kind of church.

I worked 41 years for Union Carbide Corporation. I hired at about $65 a week in 1952. My first union job paid about $125 a week afterI topped in the grade. My last twenty five years I was the section supervisor in one of the largest mainframe computing centers in the country. My annual salary was $44,500 when I retired in 1993.

In 2007 the median income for single earner families by state ranged from $31,000 in Mississippi to $55,000 in New Jersey. Considering that folks have to live from their income I think maybe a million dollars is still a lot of money.

A preacher should never accept a million dollar salary even if offered. A con man should get as much as he can extract from the fools.

I think more people should read the novel "Elmer Gantry." Even though it's from 1927, it was very prescient when it came to predicting the rise of modern megachurches and "super-preachers."

Truth is, any high-money environment will attract con-men, rascals, scoundrels, and opportunists. And history shows that some of them will succeed.

It's worth keeping that in mind.

Pat Robertson, a TV minister, has his wealth is so well hidden it is hard to count, but reliable resources estimate that he is worth somewhere between 200 million and a billion dollars. If this guy is God's man we need a new God.

P. T. Barnum said, "There's A Sucker Born Every Minute!" Nothing proves what he said more than religion.

Here's the good stuff:

I guess that depends on what the church wants to pay him realloy. Should the governamnt make someone who guess six numbers a millionaire is just about the same type question.
