What I find most frightening is that people, largely motivated by keeping up with the Joneses, have voluntarily and umbilically attached themselves to the rest of the human race in such a way that being at the mall without a cell phone is like being on a raft in the middle of the Pacific Ocean, with all the attending emotional disconnect.
What does that say about one's mental health and emotional stability.
I don't have a phone besides my cell phone, or a watch. so my phone is my clock and my way to have a telephone conversation. But I don't use it if I'm with other people unless it's an emergency. And I don't even HAVE internet on my phone.

That's a good question.
We're all turning into one big office cubicle.
Never have we been so wired and in touch--yet so far apart.

I have a land line and a clock, both in my house. If I need to make a phone call, I do it while I'm at home. If somebody calls me and I'm not home, they'll call back later. If I'm out and I need to know what time it is, I ask somebody.
I can't remember ever making or receiving a phone call that was an emergency. I didn't even know you could get internet on your phone. I don't feel deprived. Everyone is an individual, and has their own needs and wants. I'm very contented with who I am, but I feel rather sad for what a lot of other people have let themselves become.

I hear potential employers love them. Lets them weed out people pre-interview.
I've heard this also, but I'm not sure how it works. In the case of Facebook, you need a password to gain access to any kind of information viewed on a members page. The only thing a potential employer could see without being added as a 'friend' is the person's default picture. So, unless someone is using a picture where they're doing something really really stupid, how is their picture being used against them?
