I'm not bothered at all by the commercials. I could see being embarrassed if the commercials were tacky, and featured somebody like a Ron Jeremy type saying: "Hey man, you need this stuff if you want to give it to her like i can". But, the commercials are generally subtle and subdued.
I really don't get the issue with tampon commercials. Nearly all women on the planet menstruate; it's a normal thing that happens. Companies advertise toothpaste because people need to brush their teeth. How is advertising tampons and pads any different?

You're right, they're not that different.
This is just anecdotal evidence, but I always wondered how much good that advertising even does. When it comes to that sort of thing, word of mouth or personal experience worked far better for me than a TV commercial.
Regardless, explaining it to my sons was not the end of the world, just a bit silly.

I consider much of TV ridiculous because of its content, as well as all advertising, period.
I am not fond of limiting free speech.
It is my brain cells I wish to preserve.
In terms of Viagra being advertised between 6 and 10, I do think there are more important things to worry about, and if I were voting on the Decency Act, I would say nay.

It's all part of parental responsibility. I do not say this facetiously.

You know, when it comes down to it, IMHO this is the bottom line.
In addition, if the commercial is viewed by a curious child and the child asks questions, the parent need not offer detailed answers.
I do think the Viagra commercials are tacky, lame, etcetera, but it is up to the parent to take charge.

You don't see these commercials on PBS or on Disney or Cartoon Network. So what exactly are you allowing your 4-8 year old to watch?
Here is the the thing, as a parent you are responsible for the tv. If these commercials come on while your watching something and you don't want your children to see them, then turn off the tv. It is not anyone elses job to monitor your children so that you can sit around and watch tv. Commercials come on when they are most likely to be viewed by their target audience. Therefore, your 4-8 year old are not the only ones watching television.

1. If the Parent keeps turning the tv off for the same commercial, over and over again, do you think it might create alot of curiousity with the young child going to a friends house to find out more about it ?
2. Arent direct sexual inuendo being advertised on tv during the day and early evening when young kids are watching, adding to the problem of our young children becoming sexually stimulized at an age where they need to retain thier innocense ?
3. How come 20 years ago, or 10 years ago, you never had these sorts of ads on tv ? Should we be required to change our values and morals as times change, or, is it better to remain unchanged ?
