We also need to ban fatherhood, because there have been some fathers having sexual relations with their children. And ban schools, because there have been some cases of children having sex at school. And ban reading, because some children are reading about sex. Same logic?
Maybe if it was legal, you wouldn't have as many kids involved. As far as I know the Mustang Ranch, etc. never hired anyone under-age.
Bit off topic but the same thing with booze and other drugs - if you wanted to find some illegal moonshine, you would have to hunt hard for it, you buy booze in a normal store, it is what it is. But with any sort of illegal drug, you have no way to know what, exactly, you are getting.
If we legalized it we could regulate it. Pimps who beat their women and recruit children would no longer be able to operate. This would reduce those things, not encourage them.
I agree with the others; legalized prostitution for adults has nothing to do with child prostitutes and pedophiles.
If anything, legalizing prostitution for consenting adults might help eliminate, or at least reduce, things like sex slavery, underage prostitution, abusive pimps, and other major problems.
I don't believe anyone who wants to legalize prostitution is advocating child prostitution. There is a big difference between consenting adults engaged in prostitution and child sex slaves.
If Prostitution were legal, you wouldn't get the little kids being abused or smuggled in like they are today.
Just like Prohibition, Gangsters don't care how they make their money, no ethics behind it. However, once alcohol was legalized again, you can add restrictions on ages that can buy, it opens it up for legitimate businessmen, and it makes it harder for criminals to make a buck on it.
There will always be prostitution, the criminalizing of sex is even worse than the war on drugs. People are going to do these things, there is nothing that anyone can do about it. The best option is to legalize it, regulate it, and control it.
The only thing I worry about, is there will always also be some sick guy who wants to rape a 11 year old girl. As long as someone wants to do it, there will be someone who tries to fill that need.
In an ideal world, prostitution would not exist. We don't live in an ideal world though. The current system that make prostitution illegal creates a climate for the very worst abuses. Pimps beat their prostitutes because they know that they won't complain to authorities because they are doing something illegal. Customers are often robbed by prostitutes because the prostitutes know the customers wouldn't dare go to the police to complain. Children are involved in the activity because the pimps know that no matter how old their prostitutes are they are still breaking the law, so why not break one more law?
No place in the world has ever succeeded in eliminating prostitution. The smarter societies have faced up to that and instead try to regulate the activity to prevent the worst abuses. Its like marijuana laws though, it might make enormous sense to decriminalize the activity of smoking marijuana, but the churches and some other social conservative groups would never allow it. So, instead plan on decades more of fruitless attempts to enforce these laws.
