Hi. One of my goals in coming years is to buy some land to have a garden. When I look at seeds for sell (just a grocery store) I see most of them are "hybrid" and a few are non-hybrid. From documentaries I seen about GMO foods and how it messes up the soil, what's your experience or thoughts on gardening with seeds that aren't original or organic?
Hybrids have been around for a long time. Burbank was a pioneer in the field and many of the hybrids used today were developed using his methods. GMO's have been crossed with various DNA (like fish) to make it more convient for the chemicals used in large scale agri-business to fertilize and/or pest control. If you see something marked "Round-Up Ready", you are looking at GMO seeds.
