It makes me sad when I see that these have fallen out of the tree. I will usually put them back but often the tree will reject them and they fall out again.

Believe it or not, they will compost. And, they make great compost, it just takes a while. Keep it moist. You will end up with the richest soil you can imagine. It will look like coffee grounds. It just takes a while. I had a homemade Victory Garden style compost bin and turn out tons from the 80 foot Oak that dominated my yard. I couldn't grow anything because of the tree but I sure was popular every Spring when the neighbors would be over with their buckets for compost.

Interesting tip. Thanks!

I also used the empty hulls and bad ones for a cooking fuel as well. The high moisture content of the acorn meat along with the dry shell made a nice even heat.

Cool beans GloryB; I think I'd like to try this, I've got plenty in my front yard!

You might make some money on ebay selling them as "seeds" to other people. Or for trading with others in the seed forums for their seeds you might want...

That's a helpful suggestion shadowwalker. We really need the money right now. I had no idea people would want them. Thank you.
