My community is busily installing about two dozen planting areas that I assume are akin to "rain gardens" in an older section of town where the storm drain infrastructure was 100 years old and crumbling. The planting areas each take up about as much curb space as a full size van.

We have an "accidental" rain garden just east of our home due to the configuration of the lots in our area. It works beautifully. The program is relatively new to Anchorage. Here is their site:
