So says one of our state legislatures. Who elects these people? This one should be fun to follow.

Next they will be charging a life fee (beyond taxes) becuase people pollute the air just by breathing by that logic.

That may actually be the logic, you ride a bike you breathe heavier, more calories, more food. That would certainly drive up the CO2 emissions per person when you just consider the person especially with the increased food intake .

I don't buy it compared to someone using a vehicle, that defies common sense but it would certainly be interesting to see how it compares. There is good arguments as to why bicyclists need to be taxed but this isn't one of them.

The C02 arguement makes no sense. If his rationale had been the cost of expansion and maintenance of bike lanes, it would have.

Thank you for confirming the EPA is a government organization totally out of control and managed by tree huggers who are clueless as to the real world.....

CHICAGO, December 7, 2012 — December 7, 2009 is a date that will live in infamy. Not in memory of the attack on Pearl Harbor, but the day the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) declared carbon dioxide to be a pollutant under the Clean Air Act.

The 52-page EPA Endangerment Finding can be summarized simply. The agency concluded that carbon dioxide and five other greenhouse gases emitted by US industry and vehicles were causing dangerous global warming. The EPA stated that these gases “threaten the public health and welfare of current and future generations.” The agency relied on studies by the Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change (IPCC) of the United Nations, the U.S. Global Climate Research Program, and the National Research Council.

So this Representatives comments make perfect sense under the EPA's ruling.

Quote:
Rep. Ed Orcutt (R-Kalama) said in an email to bike shop owner Dale Carlson that, “since CO2 is deemed a greenhouse gas and a pollutant, bicyclists are actually polluting when they ride.”
The EPA flat ruled CO2 a pollutant, period.... Not any stupider than many other rulings they have made....

Are some here suggesting, wellll, somethings just pollute less than vehicles so it's OK.... If so why are we just letting bicycles off the hook?

You have taken this opportunity to voice your personal opinions of the EPA. IT has nothing to do with this topic. Try to stay on subject.

This is dumb hyperbole. I suspect the lawmaker in question knows this, but figures his constituents are too ignorant to apply critical thinking.

You know, we all generate a significant amount of dilute ammonia every day. Does that mean that it shouldn't be considered a hazardous chemical in concentrated form?

No.

Does it mean you need to post a MSDS sheet on your toilet and apply for an EPA waiver every time you flush?

Also no.

It does mean that it is a good idea to put water/sewer meters on your home and regulate that sewage be sent to waste treatment plants (or a septic system) rather than have everybody pee in the river.

It's also a bad idea to put a plastic bag over your head and investigate the dangerous effects of highly-concentrated CO2.

C'mon children. Time to grow up and live in the real world.
