China is moving to renewables because the are dying from reliance on coal. It has nothing to do with supply issues.

Yea, that's why they keep installing new plants and import vast quantities of it.... They will burn through every piece of coal they have plus whatever they can import. Imports alone account for 1/3 of what we burn.

There has certainly been a large increase in US exports of coal but I believe they are importing most of it from Australia.

The point of this thread is that the leadership of China has now made a major commitment to turning away from that path, and towards widescale implementation of renewable energy sources. If they follow through with these commitments they could establish themselves as the ecological role model for the world.

I suspect their commitments are in recognition of the long-term benefits (economic and environmental) of going renewable.
