A former truck driver may have set a new record for driving his electric car from New York City to Miami and back: 58 hours and 15 minutes—and he did it all without spending a penny. Michael Fritts, who charged his Tesla Model S for free along the way, wanted to celebrate the 10th anniversary of his successful heart surgery “by doing something special and fun and I also wanted to celebrate this wonderful vehicle," he tells WKTV. The experience left him feeling "a little like Batman," adds the New York man, who returned from his journey Tuesday.
That seems like decent time even for a "regular" vehicle. When we drive straight through from South Miami-Dade to Central Connecticut it takes us about 27 hours non-stop. That is only one way and I am beat by the time I complete the one way journey. I can only imagine doing a turn and burn back the other way!
The driver didn't pay for recharges but someone did, I fail to see how this is any different than someone making the same trip in a normal car and arranging for other people to buy his fuel.

Who has the unlimited no-cost gasoline program? Is it Ford? I'm not familiar with this program for normal cars.
I am not a math major but NYC to Miami Fla and back is 2,596 miles.
He averaged 44MPH...
Very impressive...
If I drove 44MPH I'd feel like Snailman rather than Batman.
What does him averaging 44MPH and you driving 44MPH have to do with eachother? I'm going to have to agree with you. Clearly, math is not your strength.
Because it's only something you could do with the Tesla. Who else offers to pay your way? Ford? Honda?
For PR benefits you can get a lot of companies to give you lots of stuff for free.
If you want, put a Red Bull can on top of your car and they'll pay for your fuel too.
It would have been amazing if he drove the scenic routes instead of the drag route but then he'd still be out there somewhere waiting for a solar powered rescue vehicle and hoping a Priius didn't want to race.

Which companies currently offer their customers fuel for the life of their car? Even with PR?
