For those interested in electric cars, there are two more models to choose from. The first is the VW Golf and the second is the Kia Soul. What both have to offer is functional storage. The range isn't great which is a problem for most customers. The VW Golf has the option of a turbo diesel which has pretty high MPG. Chevrolet has a turbo diesel Cruze which also has high MPG. More compact sedans are approaching or surpassing 40 mpg highway and 30 mpg city. Subcompact cars don't offer the 40+ MPG highway but petty good city MPG. The sad thing is the real micro cars like the FIAT 500, Smart Car, and others of similar size don't match the MPG of the compact sedans.
Micro Car and not great MPG, means I would rather have a larger car... Also, until the rest of the USA starts driving smaller cars, I don't like being the fly on the windshield of a large truck or SUV. Even though we have a "small" car, it is still big compared to a smart car.
That smart car just looks like they picked it before it was ripe...
I know it has a place and a busy downtown or tourist area it is probably PERFECT - Key West comes to mind as one place. I just couldn't see using one for my daily commute and running errands. Of course there are 4 of us... so that might having something to do with it.
I could see that car being used in some remote areas. A good set of tracks on it and it's light enough not to sink into mud/snow... Although your worries go from hitting larger car to hitting a large game animal.

Yep, as an urban commuter and personal transport it works well. They are being used by the Car2Go car sharing service in DC, San Diego, and Austin, among others.

In city driving the tiny cars are probably much more efficient. Only on the highways is aero more important than weight

Saw them the last time I was in Miami too. (Car2Go)
